Travel by Lolly: The Philippines

After being in Hong Kong for a few days, we got on a plane to the Philippines to experience their lagoons, beach and gorgeous islands. I haven’t been to the Philippines before so I was not really sure what to expect. I knew I would have the opportunity to lay on the beach which is always appealing. I had no idea how absolutely breathtaking this place would be. Scroll down to see more candid photos from the trip and tips on where to stay. If you haven’t been here, it’s definitely a destination to add to the list.

We traveled to Cebu first. Here we stayed at Plantation Bay Resort and Spa for a few days. Talk about relaxing. We only left the property one afternoon to go snorkeling. The restaurants, “lagoon-like” pool and “swim-up” to our private deck made it a hard place to leave. Yes, the pool came up to our room. In the morning, I jumped off the deck into the water and swam over to the sand to have breakfast on the beach. I mean…so cool. There was also a giant rock to dive off of and do silly tricks (like flips and stuff). Oh and how could I forge to mention the massages on the beach. Incredible. They have a fantastic spa at the resort as well. We had such a fabulous time here.

Our next stop? El Nido. Yep, take a look at the photo above. You are looking at the island that Cauayan Resort and Spa was on. We hiked up to the top of one of the mountains to take this photo (it was much harder than I had expected). As you can see, the rooms were all private huts on the beach and water. We had a hut over the ocean. From the top of the photo we were the third hut from the left. Literally I fell asleep to the sound of the waves crashing every night. Pinch me. Talk about total seclusion. Cauayan Resort was the only resort located on this island. Only about 20 guest were there when we were (which was amazing), and we hung out by the pool, in the bar lounge, restaurant or beach each day. By the end of the trip, we felt like we knew everyone. On one of the days we took a day trip to explore the lagoons. We kayaked through limestone caves and explored all of the gorgeous lagoons. I felt like I was in a dream or a movie. They grilled fresh fish for us on the boat and we bought beer from kayaks! It was one of the best experiences of my life. Some of these spots were so beautiful that they didn’t seem real. I could not believe my eyes. I still dream about this place. I hope to go back someday (even though there are so many places to explore on my list).

Overall, this was one of my favorite trips. I love that we went to Hong Kong for a few days then hopped over to the islands. We went back to Hong Kong for a day/night before returning to San Francisco. I highly recommend visiting these places. Seeing this beautiful part of the world for yourself is something I can’t even describe.
